12 a. m. - Kathleen, Carol Anne, and I along with the horses: Pooh, Reggie, Josh, and little dog Biscuit set out for Norwood, North Carolina. The lighting storms lighted our 8 hour journey and it reminded me of the Fourth of the 4th of July all over again. We called ourselves the "Nightriders" as we covered the countryside in the cool of night to accommodate the horses. I dozed in and out of consciousness in anticipation of meeting the other 8 riders preparing to compete for the 8 spots of the 2008 Olympic traveling squad to Hong Kong. We arrived at 8 a. m. and efficiently unloaded, tended to the horses and took a quick nap. The Beauty of the Fork was so inspiring and Jim and Bernadette Cogdell were very excited to host the final outing and share with us their love affair for the farm.Char (my long-time friend and groom) arrived late Tuesday night from California and was eager to care for the Witch as she always has over the past five years. Lessons begain with Sandy Phillips early Wednesday morning and Ginnie (my coach) arrived from California on Thursday to oversee the positive progress we had made over the last 2 weeks. I was so excited that my team had united again but was sad that my friends, fiancé Rob and family were not here to enjoy this final stage of my Olympic-bound career. |

Jennifer and “The Witch” are ‘hopping on their broomstick’, heading east for the final test of their suitability for the US Olympic Team. The pair is currently raising funds to support the final selection, which involves flying to the East Coast on June 24th to begin training with the Olympic Team’s leaders. Jennifer and “Pooh” will participate in mandatory team training with team coach Mark Phillips for five days (June 25th – 29th) in the town of Plains, Virginia. Meanwhile, the USOC will hold team-building seminars for the thirteen riders on the “A” list as six team selectors place Pooh under a magnifying glass. Jenn and “Pooh” will be in a three day clinic held by world renowned dressage coach Sandy Phillips (Mark Pillips’ wife). Finally, the pair will journey on to “The Fork,” North Carolina where the Final Selection Event will take place from July 10-12. Cross your fingers on July 14th when the traveling squad of eight riders will be chosen and publicly announced. Of the eight horse and rider combinations, five will be picked to compete as a team along with three alternates. When Jennifer and ‘The Witch’ are selected they will continue on to Hong Kong to compete August 8-14th for the United States of America! Jennifer has been invited to train with Olympic coach Capt. Mark Phillips in England to prepare for the Olympics. The cost for expenses to England will be around $40,000. Since Jennifer does not have a sponsor for this kind of expense, she needs your help. |
